After its theatrical release and a remarkable international festival journey —including the Venice International Film Festival (La Biennale di Venezia), BAFICI – Buenos Aires Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente, D’A Film Festival Barcelona, the São Paulo International Film Festival, the Seminci – Valladolid International Film Week, among others— the feature-length documentary Portabella Constellation is now available to watch online.
Directed by Claudio Zulian, the film offers an essayistic exploration of the work and trajectory of Pere Portabella, mapping the links between his cinema, artistic avant-gardes, political culture and critical memory across the 20th and 21st centuries. Through film excerpts, archival materials and a constellation of critical voices, the documentary positions Portabella as a key figure of modern cinema and contemporary thought.
Constel·lació Portabella is produced by Acteon, in co-production with 3Cat, La Charito, RTVE and Eddie Saeta, in association with CaixaForum+, with the participation of Crea SGR and with the collaboration of Films 59, La Xarxa Audiovisual Local, the ICAA, Mercury Films, Antaviana and the Institut Ramon Llull.
The film features contributions from critics, curators and essayists who have closely engaged with Portabella’s work: Jonathan Rosenbaum, Àngel Quintana, Esteve Riambau, Xavier Albertí, Jordi Balló, Jean-Paul Aubert, Manuel Borja-Villel, Marcelo Expósito, Teresa Grandas, Steven Marsh, Pilar Parcerisas, Luis E. Parés, as well as Pere Portabella himself.
