The opera Asdrúbila offers us a groundbreaking vision of musical drama: it is an opera in the strictest sense, with all the historical and aesthetic connotations that the term implies.
Conceived at the request of the programme of cultural events (Cultural Olympics) held around the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, Asdrúbila is Carles Santos’ most ambitious work and production. It brings together all the classic elements of traditional opera, which are also close to Greek tragedy, mediated by a fast cinematic rhythm and lavish décor and costumes.
